Rudy Giuliani’s Return on Investment

by thursday on February 4th, 2008

Rick gave us a fantastic analysis of the problems with Giuliani’s campaign last week. The dust has settled a bit, and I wanted to point out two very specific numbers:

Total money spent by Rudy Giuliani’s campaign (as of Dec. 31, 2007): $48,152, 428

Total delegates won by Rudy Giuliani: 1

That’s right. Giuliani spent almost $50 million to win just one delegate, in Nevada. He now holds the record for the most money spent winning a single delegate, according to Talking Points Memo. The previous record holder was John Connally, who spent $11 million on winning one delegate during the 1980 Republican race. That delegate, Mrs. Ada Mills of Clarksville, Arkansas, was nicknamed the ‘$11 million delegate.’
